Mac OS X Public Beta (Build 2E14)

Mac OS X Public Beta is actually one of the very view beta version on this site I actually own (there are a couple others that were on Apple developer discs I bought on eBay). I took these screenshots quite some time ago and I think they're pretty terrible. Unfortunately I can't seem to boot from my CD anymore! Perhaps you can't boot Public Beta with recent G4 firmware as I tried booting the same Mac I originally used with my CD and it failed.

Released on September 13th, 2000 for $29.95 US anyone could give a semi-working copy of OS X a try without having to be a developer. Sporting only English, French and German languages, few native programs, many bugs and requiring quite beefy hardware (for the time) people still eagerly picked up copies to try out Apple's revolutionary operating system.

Here's a scan of my actual disc. The X has changed quite a bit over the years.
Mac OS X Public Beta (Build 2E14)
This is pretty much as far as I can get these days with my copy. All of the following screenshots I took years ago.

The About This Mac box displaying the build number. Along the dock you can see some of the programs included.

System Preferences grew quite a bit from Developer Preview 4.
Mac OS X Public Beta (Build 2E14)
Classic booting in Mac OS X Public Beta is the same as all future versions of OS X. It simply shows the booting screen and the disappears - unlike earlier versions which would allow full use os Mac OS 9.

The original Mail.app. Oddly enough with the same icon as Mail 2.1 in Tiger.

It's not quite iTunes but Music Player let you listen to your CDs and MP3s from OS X.

We do not have any copies of these operating systems. Nor do we know where to find them.
