Frequently Asked Questions and Other Facts What's the deal with the funky menu names?
Apple wanted a way that they could walk up to a Macintosh system running a beta and instantly know which one it was running. Early on the Special menu in the Finder was adopted for this use with unique names such as Sarah (Mac OS 8.7a6c2) and StoneAge (Mac OS 8.7a3). Then Apple realized that they could only see the Special menu from the Finder. In later versions they decided to use the Help menu since it is always shown. So far the only time I've see that used is in Copland Build d11e4. Is any of the information you write about the different operating systems here accurate? How about 'It's as accurate as possible'? I can't say for sure because I don't have any of the operating systems, nor am I a beta tester. All I can do is tell you what I know based on what the people have told me, Google searches and my background with Macs in general. Some of the operating systems you have here show different versions in the photos than your descriptions. What's the deal? Well, to be frank Apple didn't really spend much time on updating every instance of a version number from build-to-build. So in many cases the About This Mac box version isn't always up to date. So I go by what the person told me when I originally got the screenshots. It's entirely possible most of them are wrong! Can I get a copy of (insert OS title here) from you? Nope. I really don't have copies of any of them, so please don't ask for them. Why don't you have any screenshots of new OSes such as Mac OS 10.5 Leopard available? I don't want a nasty letter from Apple Legal is the main reason. This site is meant to be a visual history of past Mac OS developer and pre-release versions. Not a rumour site for products in development. Any pages about future OSes will be locked out or kept off the server until such time as the final version is made public. Please link to pages, not directly to images. All screenshots are submitted to this site.
We do not have any copies of these operating systems. Nor do we know where to find them. 5 users viewing this site • Page viewed 1030 times • ©2002-2007 Peter Brockie ![]() Contact Me • Legal info • About This Site • Site Stats • Forcedpefect.net • Billboards.forcedperfect.net Digg This
